Josefin Tolstoy’s practice is rooted in intuition, allowing her creative instincts to guide the unfolding of each work. Inspired by the world around her—interiors, art, architecture, and design—she transforms these influences into her own vivid and expressive visual language.

She hand-mixes her paints for her signature abstract compositions, using mortar as a thickener to give the surface a sculptural presence once dried. This physical, almost architectural materiality is often contrasted with a warm and gentle color palette, creating a balance that feels both expressive and vulnerable.
