Made to measure, done right

Made to measure tailoring, also known as MTM, has been around for quite some time now, and for many, it’s a familiar concept even though far from everyone has tried it.

In a made to measure process, every garment is produced due to the customer’s measurements and wishes. Starting with an existing base pattern we go through a number of different measuring points and adjust the pattern to fit your unique body shape.
But it should not be confused with tailor-made or bespoke, which involves the creation of an entirely new pattern from scratch for every garment.

In this article, we will go through what made to measure is and how it’s done at Blugiallo.

Made to measure

A well-fitting wardrobe is not the only upside to made to measure. Since everything is produced on demand it is considered to be one of the healthiest ways to purchase clothing. It represents a fantastic method to prevent the very problematic level of overproduction seen in the fashion industry today. For us at Blugiallo, custom made and on demand has become a foundation that we live by. We strongly believe in the ‘value driven’ piece-by-piece production and it is our goal for it to replace the unsustainable ways of mass production.

The process of acquiring a made to measure Blugiallo garment can be done in two ways. Either by visiting one of our showrooms or by using our online tailoring tool. The process can be divided into three steps; measuring, consulting, and fitting.

Getting your measurements taken in the showroom

When you step into a Blugiallo showroom we always start with a cup of the best coffee while investing some time in understanding your needs and preferences in general. Then it’s time to get your measurements taken by one of our tailoring professionals. The process revolves around gathering measuring points based on an existing base pattern which consists of one suit and one shirt.

From that base pattern, all adjustments needed will be made to create a unique and personal fit profile for you. The base pattern and the number of possible adjustments we can make are what contribute to the level of quality we can deliver for each garment. Though, the adjustments themselves are not worth much without a proper understanding of pattern dynamics.

For a jacket, for example, important adjustments are postures and positioning of shoulders, shoulder heights, and armpit rotation. But never overlook the great improvement of balance generated from repositioning waist height. A lot can be done outside widths and lengths.

Once the fit is settled and the measurements are taken your fit profile is done. All measurements will be saved to your account and can be used for all future orders.

Consulting

When we have the measurements in place it’s time for the fun stuff, picking the fabric and design of your garment. Together with you, we will discuss the area of use and possible occasions where you will wear the piece. Versatility is important to us and we want to make sure that you walk away with something that will suit you and your lifestyle.

We also try to find pieces that go well with your existing wardrobe garments and build upon them. For instance, a well-chosen suit, a few shirts, and a pair of chinos could take you a long way if you require a smart casual wardrobe. This is also where we go into detail about the design and construction of the garments. Choosing the right fabric is important, however, the design and construction are equally important in order to create the perfect garment for you.

Measurements online

If you don’t have access to one of our showrooms our online tailoring tool will do the job.

The digital process is a well-defined, data-driven, process that is perfected from more than 11 thousand unique bodies and recognizes your body measurements with 99,1% accuracy. The process takes less than a minute to complete and your personal fit profile is created instantly.

You start off easy by entering your height, weight, and age. Then you will be asked a couple of questions about your style preferences as well as common issues you face while buying off-the-rack clothing.

The algorithm will calculate your measurements and save them to your account immediately.

To make sure everything is all right you are always welcome to book a digital consultation with one of our tailoring professionals after you have completed the online process. Together we will go through the measurements, fabrics, and design options for your garments. Your fit profile can of course, always be adjusted afterward if necessary.

Receiving the garment

Once your garments are ready we will contact you. We usually recommend a fitting, especially for new customers or if you have used a new fit profile. This is to review the fit and make sure everything is to your liking.  This could either be done via online consultation or psychically in our showroom. If any minor adjustments are needed we will, of course, take care of it and let our tailor work his magic. Your fit profile will of course also be updated. Once we confirm that the fit is perfect you are all set to continue creating your perfect wardrobe.

Made to measure done right

You have rocked your new favorite piece for a while now and feel the need for another addition to the wardrobe. As much as we love it when you come by the showroom, there is no need to get out of the house to order your perfect-fitting made-to-measure clothing if you don’t have the time.

Since your fit profile is saved to your account you can simply head on to the website and look through all the inspiring outfits. If you can’t find exactly what you are looking for, you are always welcome to schedule a meeting with us and we can show you other fabrics and colors.
